More than 150 years after the first shots of the Civil War were fired, another wave of volunteers is about to descend on America’s storied battlegrounds. But this array of dedicated men and women will be armed with paint brushes, trash bags and weed whackers — not muskets — ready to help preserve these tangible links to our past for the Sesquicentennial Commemoration of the Civil War.

The members of the SCAR came together this weekend for a special living history at the Andersonville Prison. Known for it's horrible conditions and treatment of prisoners, Andersonville is legendary. The 21st OVI sponsored this event with the National Park Service. Event participants portrayed prisoners from all branches of Federal service and Confederate guards. The rations for all were sparse and many men went hungry.
