The Civil War began as a struggle between armies of untrained but enthusiastic volunteers. Seven generations later, another army of volunteers is about to descend on America’s Civil War battlefields – only this horde of dedicated men and women will be armed with paint brushes, trash bags and weed whackers.

During a ceremony yesterday on Capitol Hill, CWPT honored Evergreen State Congressman Norm Dicks (D-Wash.) with its Lifetime Achievement in Historic Preservation Award, recognizing his outstanding commitment to protecting America’s vanishing past.

During a ceremony this morning, CWPT recognized Friends of Wilderness Battlefield, Maryland educator Robert Rinehart and philanthropists Mark and Karen Perreault with the organization’s Chairman’s Awards for Achievement in Historic Preservation.
